I’m getting a computer within 3 weeks. I have been given a budget of $1500. At first, I was all for a Windows PC but now I’m thinking…what about an iMac? Its not as though it doesn’t do something a Windows computer does….I can even play Sims 3 on it which is a massive bonus (lol I’m addicted). And I think I would suit an iMac more than a Windows PC anyway…I mean my PC is customized to the brink of being a Mac anyway so what change would it really make? There are always emulators for Windows software but Macs basically support all windows software now anyway.
The only thing stopping me from completely making the decision of an iMac is that I could build my own computer…I’ve done this once before and it was a raging success for the most part, but now that I have an actual reasonable budget I’m seriously thinking about creating a gaming beast…
Please, enlighten me
Let’s drag up the old Mac Vs. PC file one more time for dearest April…. ![]()
If you want to play the Sims 3 and if you want the game to run well (especially if you use mods) – do not get a Mac.
So, yeah, if you want a computer to play games with, then do yourself a favor and do not get a Mac.
But if you just want a pretty computer that’s good for design and things like that – a Mac would be fine.
I was a PC user for 12 years and dabbled using Macs as required by school for 4 years. When the time came to get a new computer this past April, I debated whether or not to get another PC or try my hand at using a Mac at home. When my PC finally shit the bed about a month before I was planning to purchase the new computer, I was so fed up that I immediately went to the Apple website and purchased a MacBook and I have to say, I am completely satisfied. I can honestly say I don’t think I will ever go back to PCs. This is, of course, assuming Macs stay up to par and PCs continue to frustrate me with their security holes and other aggravations. I feel so primitive now when using a PC and I’m yet to have any trouble on my Mac. *knocks on wood* I haven’t even had to make a necessary restart to fix troubles!
This is a good debate to bring up because I want to buy a laptop for school, and I’m not sure whether I should get a Mac or not ![]()
I think if gaming is a big thing for you, though, then you’ll definitely get better specs (for the same amount of money) building it yourself instead of getting a Mac!
I love mac, but it sounds like you’ve already made your decision ![]()
My macs have never given me a hard time. My PCs are alway crashing and having weird issues.
This is what I’ve discovered though: the classic argument that Macs are not good for gaming needs to be qualified. Games which were not designed by their programmers to run on Mac will obviously not run on Mac properly. However games which come with a stable Mac version runs just as perfectly, perhaps even better sometimes. This I’m referring to me playing World of Warcraft on my Mac just fine and it’s even crashing less than my friends on Windows.
Apparently, if you know how to maintain your computer well and run regular virus/spyware checks, there is not much difference between Windows and Mac. However, for a lazy person like me who got fed up with running all these scans and checks all the time and having to take forever to do disk defragmentation, I found Mac to really be my type of thing. Especially how removing some installations can be quite complicated with Windows, because installed files are everywhere, all Mac applications are in a bundle of .app so just chuck that in the Trash and it’s over. I’m not a hardware pro, so I find Mac easier to clean & maintain. But since you build computers, you’re probably better at it than I am.
On top of that, I’m very superficial and I like the always-clear type text on Mac and obviously the Mac interface.
Thanks for the comments and info guys. You’ve definitely helped me a lil bit and I think I’m going to build a gaming beast ![]()
A mac would be good but I’ve decided I can’t wait – I just NEED to build another computer it’s been ages and I’m excited ![]()
I think you ultimately answered your own question in your entry. If what you want is a gaming beast, then the best thing for you to do would be to build your own computer. I’ve been a PC for years and years, but now I’m the proud owner of an iMac. I love it to bits (and the Sims 3 runs better on this than it ever did on my PC), and it’s exactly what I needed. However, it’s not a gaming computer, so it wouldn’t fit your needs.
FUCK
i hope i am not too late and you have already built a windows machine
stop right there
sims will run fine on your mac
honestly once you go mac you never go back
i use my mac every single day and have not yet had any problem at all
everything is perfect
i HATE when i have to use a windows machine
just the thought of it frustrates me with its constant pointless pop ups and horrible design
you can build a computer that may have better specs but apple is the only company that makes both their own software and hardware
thats why their stuff works so incredibly fast regardless os specs
anyway
thats just my part
