Family Vacations

June 30th

What is your outlook on them? For me, a family vacation can mean a variety of things: It might mean grabbing the best friend and pulling her along with me so I don’t get bored shitless due to the lack of wondrous activities minors and 18+ can do together, or it can mean being stuffed in a car with simply the 4 of us (my older sister is no longer apart of the immediate family since she upped and outed) and heading off somewhere for some hard-yard family time. Sometimes, they can be fun and other times; they can be a nightmare.

I am currently on a family vacation down the coast with my family and no best friend…which means its all of us, the 4 of us, all together. Doing things together. Usually, this is chaotic and a recipe for a nightmare trip but we’re halfway through the week and I must say, so far I’ve enjoyed myself. Me and my brother (who I will here on in called Shithead) are getting along pretty ok for two people that usually try to literally kill each other. Mum and Dad are loving that me and Shithead aren’t fighting so they’re happy too. Last night we went to the movies together to see the family-fun movie “Grown-Ups”. It was hilarious. I laughed a lot and Mum even ate a burger from Hungry Jacks (she usually lives on Rabbit food cos she’s a gym junkie).

Spending time with the family is, to put it simply, NOT my favourite activity. Fights will erupt, physical or verbal, and the whole trip will be ruined from Day One. This time, however, this has not happened and I have to admit that maybe my shithead brother isn’t as bad to be around and maybe Dad isn’t the nazi I used to imagine he was. Mum’s just mum….she wants the family to get along no matter what. She would pay us all a million dollars just for some peace and quiet for a week. But I’m not selfish, so I didn’t ask for it xP.

When you have gone on a family vacation, what does it usually consist of and do you normally have fun or just stick your earphones in and block the whole thing out?
