Litterboxes, Excess Water and Job Interviews

January 21st

Family & Friends Uni & Work with Comments Off

What a hectic first month of 2011 it has been! With the floods Queensland experienced (my area was part of the 25% of the state still afloat, thank god) and trying to find a decent job that doesn’t entail wearing a hairnet and measuring how many litres of preservative egg needed per cake, I really believe that we are all due for a break very soon. This is what January 2011 has entailed: No longer is Australia the driest continent on Earth, I have a job interview at a law firm as a typist, and we (Jason and I) have a new addition to the family in the form of a cat – MUCH to Jason’s distaste.

The floods hit Queensland hard and so many homes and businesses are going to spend months rebuilding what they lost. The only thing I can really say is, thank god the insurance companies allowed people to claim flood damage – considering they had been too tight to do so before. The Aussie spirit is very much alive though with so many people volunteering that anyone else offering to help has actually been put on a “volunteer waiting list” incase they are needed in the future at some stage. This is such a turn around to the usual news reports you hear of people looting houses that had been damaged and abandoned in one of Mother Nature’s violent bouts of rage. So good to see that there really are more good people in Queensland than there are scum. I just feel so thankful that myself and none of my family were severely hurt by the floods; unlike so many other families out there – Jordan Rice‘s family in particular.

Moving on to brighter topics; however, I have a job interview today for a law firm as a junior receptionist / typist! I am very excited…finally the opportunity for some full time work. As much as I love The Cheesecake Shop (ha!), they just aren’t giving me enough shifts to actually help me live. I have enough for all my expenses but I have no grounds to save on and that is a disaster in the position I am in. So fingers crossed for that, I hope everyone out there reading this truly does wish me luck haha – I kind of need it!

Allie And the last topic, the one I had been saving for last…my kitten. Her name is Allie and she is an 8 week old domestic short hair. I had gotten her for free as a give away from a woman who had rescued her and her siblings from a couple who were mistreating them. The woman told me when she first got them they were covered with fleas – she’s not anymore smile As seen in her picture she is gorgeous and has the sweetest nature. Jason does not particularly like her – he maintains he doesn’t like cats but I somehow have a sneaking suspicion he’s developing a soft spot for her – why else would I come home to find him behind the washing machine coaxing her out in a soft voice? Sprung like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar.

Such a big month for the beginning of the year – some parts good and other parts bad but either way definitely a welcome into the new year.
